Improved carbon storage in US forests

According to the US Department of Agriculture US forests have successfully offset 11 percent of industrial GHG emissions in the past five years.

It is estimated that US forests presently store 41.1 billion tons of carbon, a number that has risen progressively sine 1990.

Privately owned forest land is recorded at 604 million acres, equating to 63 percent of the US total.

Through continued improvement in private forestry management, the amount of carbon stored per acre should continue to rise.
