California carbon allowances trade over $15

Following the success of last week’s allowance auction, California carbon allowances traded at over $15 apiece.

Prices on the secondary market shot up after CCAs reached an auction settlement price of $13.65, higher than some analysts forecasted.

California carbon allowances for delivery in 2013 traded between $14.50 and $15.50 before settling at $14.85 to close the week.

Over 1.3 million CCAs were transacted as the market continues to see high trading volumes.

Nearly 6 million 2013 CCAs have traded since the California carbon market’s first compliance period began on January 1.
