Green Assets & WVU Division of Forestry and Natural Resources Launch Professional Engagement & Development Program

Green Assets · March 25, 2022

A new initiative connects WVU's top forestry students with real-world careers in forest carbon, forest management, and the future of conservation — with a side of Mountaineer football.

Last fall, Green Assets and West Virginia University Division of Forestry and Natural Resources launched the Green Assets – WVU Professional Engagement & Development Program, a new initiative connecting the Division's top students with real-world careers in forest carbon, forest management, and the future of conservation across the United States.

How the Program Works

Forest Resources Management faculty, including Dr. Greg Dahle and Dr. Jamie Schuler, will select top students based on their academic excellence and contributions beyond the classroom. The Green Assets team will host the selected students for a casual meet-up and networking event. And because networking is better with a side of Mountaineer football, each selected student also receives two tickets at the 50-yard line for an upcoming home game. Let's Go 'Eers!

Behind the fun, the goal is a serious one: helping WVU forestry students develop stronger professional skills, explore emerging markets for working forests, and learn what a career in forest carbon and conservation actually looks like from the inside.

Early Results – and Our First Intern

The program is already delivering. To date, the GA-WVU Professional Engagement & Development Program has produced eight potential internship candidates and we're thrilled to announce our first selection.

Congratulations to Kelsey Razvillas, an undergraduate pursuing a degree in Forest Resources Management, who joined Green Assets as the company's first program intern on November 15, 2021! Kelsey's experience and research in forest sampling and GIS analyses made her an ideal candidate, and we couldn't be happier to welcome her to the team.

Why WVU

The WVU Davis College of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Design is one of the most prominent forestry schools in the United States, sending exceptional graduates into the forestry marketplace year after year. Its alumni have gone on to work at the country's leading forest management companies, carbon offset developers, registries, and verification bodies. Partnering with a program of this caliber, right in our Morgantown backyard, was an easy call.
