Gas price drives record Prius sales
US sales for the Toyota Prius reached a record demand in the first quarter, with 57,000 cars being sold.
The monthly sales record was also broken this past March as 25,000 US customers purchased Prius Hybrids.
Toyota released two new models, including a plug-in edition, but the dramatic rise in gas price is likely the main force behind the bump in demand.
Other car manufacturers are getting involved in the plug-in electric market as well.
BMW plans to offer a hybrid sports car that can reach speeds in excess of 150mph.
