US looks at Great Lakes wind farm
This past week five states signed a memorandum of understanding with the White House Council on Environmental Quality regarding the development of a large wind farm on the Great Lakes.
Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, New York and Pennsylvania will look to tap into the estimated 700 gigawatts (GW) of electricity generated from the Great Lakes’ wind.
To date there have been delays to construction due to possible environmental concerns.
The memorandum of understanding with the federal government will assist project developers as they negotiate the various regulations regarding wildlife.
Another state, Maryland, is also exploring offshore wind possibilities.
