Clinton attending Sustainability Conference
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will attend the Rio+20 global sustainability conference sponsored by the United Nations this week in Brazil.
Accompanying Sec. Clinton on this trip are Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Chair Lisa Jackson and White House Special Envoy Todd Stern, however Rio+20 officials had lobbied for President Barack Obama to attend as well.
With 130 national governments planning to attend, UN officials hope that this conference will encourage global cooperation to address climate change.
Earlier this year the UN Secretary General called for the US to increase their participation in these discussions since any resolution will require the leadership of the world’s largest emitters.
