America’s Cup buying carbon offset credits
This year’s America’s Cup is embracing environmental sustainability by purchasing carbon offset credits.
The 34th running of the prestigious sailing race will be held in San Francisco and plans to achieve carbon neutrality through a number of initiatives like buying carbon offset credits and offering catering from local businesses.
Event attendees will have the option to account for their travel emissions as well by voluntarily purchasing carbon offset credits.
Environmental sustainability has been a recurrent theme in major sports events over the past few years.
Recent Olympics, the 2013 Super Bowl, and next year’s World Cup in Brazil all demonstrate efforts to operate in a renewable manner in order to reduce their impact on the environment.
