Rob Eckenrode IV

Lead Forest Carbon Analyst

Rob is Lead Forest Carbon Analyst at Green Assets. He was born and raised in rural Connecticut where he developed an appreciation for nature and the outdoors at a young age. He turned his passion into a forestry-related career outdoors, which has encompassed the nursery, tree care, oil & gas, and environmental service industries. 

He received his B.S.F and M.S.F from West Virginia University where his research work focused on green wood material testing and tree mechanics. Rob has lived in the mountain state for twelve years where he enjoys fishing, hiking, and skiing. He also enjoys working outside in the garden and managing an impressive orchid collection in the house.

Rob’s professional background involves work in commercial nurseries, residential tree care, and the oil & gas industry. He has experience in performing a wide range of ecological services, from water and soil sampling to endangered species surveys and habitat assessments. Rob has worked as a Vegetation Management Specialist on several stream and wetland mitigation projects, both public and private. He has overseen large scale reforestation projects on reclaimed mine sites and wetland mitigation sites in Kentucky, Maryland, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia. He has also overseen large timber stand improvement projects in the Allegheny, George Washington & Jefferson, Monongahela and Wayne National Forests.

As a former Biology laboratory supervisor and instructor, Rob has maintained close ties to WVU. He has served as guest lecturer on topics ranging from aquatic vegetation management to forest carbon projects, and has co-instructed the tree climbing lab. He has also served as guest lecturer at Penn State Mont Alto, giving lectures on Forest Carbon Inventory Methods & Techniques. He has also led numerous dendrology and wildflower ID walks for various organizations in his community. 

Rob is an SAF Certified Forester (CF), a SWS certified Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS) and an American Tree Farm System Certified Tree Farm Inspector. He is a Registered Professional Forester (RPF) in Connecticut, South Carolina, and West Virginia. He is a member of The Society of American Foresters (SAF), The Society of Wetland Scientists (SWS), Xi Sigma Pi National Forestry Honors Fraternity, and The American Chestnut Foundation (TACF). He was named 2019 “Mr. Chestnut” by the WVTACF and remains an active member and volunteer today.
